very interesting stuff. Lou really needs to do everything hr can to sell Kevin Hayes on the Devils as he would instantly be at the top of our forward prospect ranks and it would be like having two first round picks in a sense. Has anything been mentioned on the contracts of Carter and Gelinas? The more I look around the league the more I seem to notice that there are a lot of teams who have to many forwards and almost no teams looking for forwards so what are your thoughts on what is going to happen ?

Well on Kovalchuk, not saying I even want this to happen, but he could come back sooner....all he has to do is sit out 1 full year of professional hockey and he could go back ONLY to the Devils. Maybe he'll pull a P.Kane and play in some men's beer hockey league in Russia for a year only

As for our forward problem, looking around the league nobody is going to want a Ryder, Brunner and/or Zubrus when there are better players still UFA's. So it seems we are "stuck" with them at least until their contracts run out. (Ryder and Brunner 1yr left) It Kind of stinks because it might block some of our younger forwards (Boucher, Mattaeu, JJ) from getting quality minutes this year and even stopping Lou in trading for other quality forwards that we need (like Hayes as Bliz mentioned)

Tom's article was a good read. Looks good for the Devils as an organization moving forward.

I do like to sit at home and watch the games, but I think I will be investing in a 13 game or half season plan to do my part in supporting the team this year. I can take my customers to the games so I can write it off. Definitely would be looking at the Ice bar seats so I can heckle the opposing teams bench, which is always fun and the all you can eat food is just awesome.

Man I can't wait for the season to start, I have a good feeling about this year!

i think as of.midnight last night Hayes became a free agent so Lou cant trade for him anymore. we have to pray he chooses us at this point lol which most players dont but im.hoping at this.point i want us to move gelinas for a young forward stud and find a d man with experience and grit to help this season on the back at as our defense looks physically soft but skilled

I'm not sure I agree. He had a great season last year, but he was playing with Johnny Hockey. He may be good, but I'd rather have Boucher.

No change according to TG's article yesterday. Same with Carter. There's no real rush to get a deal done yet so I expect it be done before training camp, but probably only a week or 2 prior.

Don't see why Hayes would be interested in NJ. He wants to play in the NHL right away apparently, and we have too many forwards already, and many of them are at least 2 years away from coming off the books. I'd like us to sign him, but I don't see it happening.

I'd welcome Kovy back with open arms at age 35. Look how old Jagr and Elias are, Zidlicky too. Kovy is a monster and should be capable of being a threat well into his late 30s. Even if he slows down (ala Jagr), he still has incredible puck control and an insane 1-timer.

i would argue he had the best wrist shot in the entire league. i like kessel but if im comparing shooters i think kovalchuk is better and just about every type of shot there is. sure ovechkin and stamkos score more but i dont think either have a lazer or a wrister that kovy had but kovy did get lazy and stopped using his wrist shoy and becamr so predictable only doing one timers from the point he was best wheb he faked a shot with a toe drag to get around the forward coming to.block the shot to go straight into a bar down wrister lol

The AHL schedule is really stupid though. I would've went to all of the Marlie games when they played Albany but they didn't play them once all last season

Kovy has had some injury issues(specifically blowing out his knee early this year) that Elias and Jagr never had to deal with

Kovy also relies more on his explosiveness and athleticism than either Jagr or Elias. Jagr is a possession player, and Patty relies heavily on his hockey IQ. I just think with the injuries piling up for him (herniated disc, 2 shoulder injuries, a knee injury) in the last 3 years are going to slow him down enough to make it a bad idea. Plus I still hate him for quitting on the team.

The positive I took away from it all is that the new ownership group seems committed to building some long term stability, which would be nice for a change. Given their business interests in the area I realistically can't see them moving the team, but as long as the team isn't making money that idea will always be lurking in the shadows.

Yeah I saw that article, and agree the long term scenario looks good. I like these new owners.

I would also like to point out that I am getting sick of the comments I keep seeing from female dog ass mother(frank)ers calling themselves fans saying "I won't go to Devils games because Newark is too scary" If you really think this is the case, I suggest you wash the sand out of your vag, put your big girl panties on, get in your stupid Hyundai and show the (frank) up at the games once in a while. They probably have never even gone, there is a sea of red jerseys you walk with to and from your car and cops everywhere, It's not "Scary" at all.

It's already a (frank)ing joke that NJ didn't actually have to forfeit a 1st rounder, if he's allowed to come back before his cheating contract is up it would be a farce.

Yeah, it's a joke alright, almost as big of a joke as an original 6 team that hasn't won a cup in the expansion era. And almost as big of a joke as the league giving everyone two freebies to get out of any contracts they like, but fans getting pissy that Kovy retired out of a contract. Tell me, what is the difference between Kovy retiring or a team using a compliance buy out to get out of a contract? By the way speaking of contracts that helped the league get out of control how did the Jeff Finger deal work out? Oh, I forgot, The Laughs buried him the AHL to avoid his hit, no circumventing the cap there, right? Get off your high horse you (frank)ing idiot.

So true lol. I went to a ton of games the 11-12 season before I left for the air force. I took the train every time and there are always tons and tons of people going, lots in jerseys. As soon as you're out of the station it's nothing but cops and devils fans walking to the game.
